The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, Manitoba and Nunavut Chapter, would like to thank its many sponsors, donors, volunteers and event attendees for making the 2013 Shiver Ball one of the most successful in the event’s history.

This year’s event was truly a winter wonderland as the Delta Ballroom was transformed into a winter paradise. The over 300 guests were treated to a wonderful menu, live entertainment from Cherry Tree Productions, an exciting live and silent auction, a Scotch Bar and much more.

2013 Wish Child

This year’s dinner was highlighted by our 2013 Shiver Ball Wish Child, Kira Hanstead. In 2012 Kira was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia. The illness is a serious non-cancerous blood disorder in which the bone marrow ‘factories’ that produce red and white blood cells and platelets slow and eventually stop producing new blood.

Kira’s ten year-old brother, Ethan, played a significant role in her treatment by donating bone marrow to help her fight this life-threatening illness. Kira spoke to the dinner guests about her illness, her treatment and the positive effect that her wish had on both her and her family.

For her wish, Kira with input from her brother, chose a pirate themed vacation to Beaches Turks and Caicos. During her treatment both she and her brother would watch Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean and so being able to live out their pirate fantasy was a dream come true.
